BMH Type Electric Hoist Semi-Gantry Crane

Product Introduction

The BMH Type Electric Hoist Semi-Gantry Crane (also known as a semi-leg gantry crane or single-leg gantry crane) is an intermediate lifting solution positioned between the LD Electric Single-Girder Crane and the MH Type full Gantry Crane. One end features an leg that travels on a floor-level crane rail, while the other end has no leg and is supported by a wall-mounted corbel, hence the term "semi-gantry" or "semi-leg" configuration. Lifting capacity ranges from 1 to 32 tons, with Duty Class A3 to A5.

The BMH Type is designed for indoor and outdoor applications where a wall corbel is available on one side. It is available in two structural forms — steel plate box girder or angle steel truss (lattice) — allowing flexible selection based on operating conditions and budget. When a standard Electric Single-Girder Crane is unsuitable and a full Gantry Crane is overkill, the semi-gantry crane is the optimal choice.

The image above shows an actual BMH Type semi-gantry crane. One end uses an leg on a floor rail, while the other end is supported by a wall corbel — a compact design that saves space.

Product Features

  • Semi-leg design cuts costs: One leg on a floor rail, the other end supported by an existing wall corbel — eliminates the cost of a second leg and floor rail.
  • Box girder or lattice — your choice: Steel plate box girder (rigid, aesthetically pleasing) or angle steel truss lattice (lightweight, economical) — configured to suit your application.
  • Between single-girder and full gantry: When an Electric Single-Girder Crane won't work (outdoor coverage needed) and a full Gantry Crane is overkill, the semi-gantry is the most economical solution.
  • Compact footprint: Uses the factory wall for support, freeing up floor space on the other side — ideal for space-constrained retrofit projects.
  • Short production lead time: Standardized design + modular manufacturing, 7–12 days standard delivery — perfect for urgent projects.
  • Wide capacity range: 1 to 32 tons across the full series, from light to heavy duty, all customizable.

Working Principle

The main girder of the BMH Type semi-gantry crane is supported at one end by an leg on a floor-level rail, and at the other end by an end carriage running on a rail mounted on the factory wall corbel — forming a stepped semi-gantry structure. The Electric Hoist travels laterally along the lower flange of the I-beam on the main girder, while the bridge travel mechanism moves the entire crane longitudinally along the factory building.

Product Structure

BMH Type Semi-Gantry Crane Structure Diagram

The BMH Type semi-gantry crane consists of the following core components:

Main Girder Assembly: Box girder or lattice girder, welded from Q355B. One end connects to the leg, the other end is mounted via the end carriage on the wall corbel rail.

Leg System: Leg on one side only (with height difference), made of Q235B or Q355B. The bottom of the leg is welded to a ground beam anchored to the concrete foundation.

Bridge Travel Mechanism: Floor-level drive on the leg side; the non-leg side end carriage runs on the wall corbel rail. LD drive unit, Wheel Diameter Φ270.

Electric Hoist: CD1/MD1 type Wire rope hoist, Lifting Speed 8/0.8 m/min (dual-speed), Travel Speed 20 m/min.

Electrical Control System: Main Circuit Breaker, Contactor, Thermal Overload Relay, Limit Switch. Control voltage AC 36V safety voltage.

Typical Applications

  • Factory buildings with wall corbels: Facilities where an existing wall corbel can support the crane rail on one side—adding a semi-gantry crane cuts investment significantly.
  • Retrofit of older plants: When the existing building already has a wall-mounted rail but no floor rail space, a semi-gantry crane is the ideal solution.
  • Indoor-outdoor transition zones: Semi-outdoor operations that need to cover both the indoor workshop and an outdoor storage yard.
  • Warehouses and storage yards: Loading, unloading, and handling of unit loads—the compact semi-gantry design takes up no floor space.

Selection Guide

Light duty: BMH type, 1–5 t, span 10–16 m, for small workshops. Available with box girder or lattice boom construction. Reference price: ¥30,000–100,000.

Medium duty: BMH type, 5–16 t, span 16–20 m, for plant retrofits and warehouses. Wall corbel load capacity must be verified. Reference price: ¥100,000–200,000.

Heavy duty: BMH type, 16–32 t, span >20 m, for heavy-duty workshops and docks. A structural review of the wall is required. Reference price: ¥200,000–400,000.

Operating Instructions

Pre-operation checks: Verify that the floor rail and wall corbel rail are clear of obstructions, the wire rope is in good condition, and the brake operates properly.

Operation: Perform a trial lift of 200 mm to confirm braking before full hoisting. Pay attention to synchronization between the two sides of the semi-gantry. Overloading is strictly prohibited.

Shutdown: Raise the hook to the upper limit, then cut off the main power supply. Warranty period: one year.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between the BMH type semi-gantry crane and the MH type full gantry crane?

A: The BMH type has a semi-gantry structure—only one side has an leg running on a floor rail, while the other side is supported by the building's wall corbel. The MH type is a full gantry—both sides have outriggers and floor rails. The BMH is ideal when one side of the building can be utilized, saving approximately 20%–30% on investment.

Q: Which national standards does the BMH type semi-gantry crane comply with?

A: Designed to JB/T 5663-2008 "Electric Hoist Gantry Crane" standard; box girder/lattice boom structures reference GB/T 14406-2011; the hoisting mechanism complies with JB/T 9008.1; installation supervision and inspection are carried out per TSG Q7014.

Q: How do I choose between box girder and lattice boom construction for the BMH type semi-gantry crane?

A: Box girder construction (steel plate box beam) offers superior rigidity and a clean appearance—ideal for indoor workshops where aesthetics matter. Lattice boom construction (angle steel truss) is lighter and more economical—suitable for outdoor yards where dead weight is a concern. If budget allows, go with box girder; for the best value, choose lattice boom.

Q: What are Kelude Heavy Industry's advantages in manufacturing BMH type semi-gantry cranes?

A: Kelude Heavy Industry is located in Changyuan, Xinxiang, Henan (China's crane manufacturing hub), with over a decade of experience in gantry crane production. The BMH type features standardized design and modular manufacturing, with a standard lead time of 7–12 days. Both box girder and lattice boom constructions are available, and we offer free site surveys and wall corbel load capacity assessments. Nationwide supply, one-year warranty, immediate phone response, and on-site service within 48 hours.
