Comprehensive annual inspections are conducted by a certified inspector and take approximately two days, including non-destructive testing, load testing, and a full crane rail survey. Special inspections are triggered after installation, retrofit, overload, collision, or exposure to severe wind or earthquake events. Compared to bridge cranes, gantry cranes require additional inspection items specific to the gantry structure, outriggers, and wind anchoring systems.

Key Points of Periodic Inspection

Monthly inspections focus on the outrigger-to-main-girder connection welds. Using a magnetic particle flaw detector, the butt weld at the top of each outrigger and the T-joint welds between stiffeners and the web plate are examined. The weld surface must be cleaned of paint down to bare metal before testing, with a magnetic yoke spacing of ≤ 100 mm. Outrigger perpendicularity is measured with a theodolite; the deviation of each outrigger must not exceed H/1000, with an absolute limit of 15 mm. Gantry diagonal difference is checked with a steel tape measure: the difference between the two diagonal measurements across the main girder ends must not exceed 10 mm. For wind anchoring devices, rail clamp jaw wear must be no more than 2 mm, the clearance between the anchor pin and its seat must not exceed 0.5 mm, and windproof cables are tension-checked by measuring mid-span deflection, which must remain within 2%–3% of the cable's total length.

Annual comprehensive inspections include full-coverage UT and MPI testing of the structure, plus load tests at 100% and 110% of rated load to verify main girder deflection stays within L/400 to L/500 and outrigger elastic deformation remains within allowable limits.
