In synchronous telescoping, all boom sections extend or retract simultaneously at the same speed via a synchronization mechanism (wire rope or hydraulic synchronization valves), keeping the stroke ratio of each section consistent. This mode delivers faster extension speeds and even load distribution across sections, making it applicable to large all-terrain cranes. In sequential telescoping, sections extend one at a time in a fixed order (typically the second section first, then the third), and retract in reverse order. This mode offers simpler, more reliable control and is applicable to small- and medium-capacity cranes with lower structural costs. Some high-end cranes combine both modes—synchronous telescoping for rapid luffing adjustments, and a micro-motion sequential retract arm mode for precise adjustment of a specific section's extension length.
