Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a gantry crane and an overhead crane?
A gantry crane runs on rails at ground level, making it ideal for outdoor stockyards and storage yards. An overhead (bridge) crane travels on elevated runway rails inside a factory building, making it better suited for indoor workshop use. The gantry crane is a self-supporting structure that does not rely on building columns, which is why it is also called a "gantry" or "portal" crane.
How much does a gantry crane cost?
MH single-girder gantry cranes: 5t approx. $4,500–$9,000, 10t approx. $7,500–$15,000, 16–20t approx. $15,000–$30,000. MG double-girder gantry cranes: 10t approx. $15,000–$27,000, 20t approx. $27,000–$45,000, 50t approx. $60,000–$120,000. The MHhs rubber-tyred model costs 30–50% more than a rail-mounted unit of the same capacity. Final pricing depends on lifting capacity, span, lifting height, and structural type.
Does a gantry crane require special equipment inspection?
Gantry cranes with a lifting capacity ≥ 3t and a lifting height ≥ 2m are subject to special equipment management: new installations must pass installation supervision inspection (TSG Q7016-2016), followed by periodic inspection every 2 years (TSG Q7015-2016) and an annual inspection. Small 1–2t gantry cranes are not classified as special equipment and do not require inspection.
How do I choose between an MH single-girder and an MG double-girder gantry crane?
MH single-girder: cost-effective, 1–32t capacity, suited for light-to-medium duty with spans of 12–30m. MG double-girder: heavy-duty, 10–500t capacity, designed for large tonnage, wide spans of 18–35m, and high-frequency operation. Choose MH if you have a limited budget and moderate capacity needs; choose MG for large tonnage, wide spans, or a work duty of A5 or higher.
What anti-corrosion treatment is required for outdoor gantry cranes?
Standard outdoor gantry crane anti-corrosion: surface preparation to Grade Sa2.5, epoxy zinc-rich primer (60μm), epoxy micaceous iron oxide intermediate coat (80μm), polyurethane topcoat (60μm), with a total dry film thickness (DFT) of ≥ 200μm. For coastal or chemical plant environments, we recommend upgrading to hot-dip galvanizing (zinc layer ≥ 85μm) or a stainless steel electrical control box.
What is the delivery time for Kelude gantry cranes?
Standard configurations (MH models under 10t with spans ≤ 26m) ship in 15–25 working days. Large-tonnage or non-standard custom units typically require 30–50 working days. Kelude provides on-site installation and commissioning nationwide, with installation typically completed in 3–7 days.
