Technical Specification Requirements

ISO 9374-4:1991 requires that technical specification information supplied by jib crane manufacturers be complete, accurate, and presented in a standardized format. The technical data sheet must include the crane model, serial number, date of manufacture, and design work duty (a combination of utilization class and load spectrum, A1 to A8). Structural parameters cover the load chart with rated lifting capacity at various working radii (load-radius curve), maximum load moment, maximum and minimum radius, and the lifting height curve. Mechanism parameters include operating speeds for each motion (lifting speed, derricking speed, slewing speed, and travel speed) as well as the drive mode. Weight parameters cover total dead weight, counterweight weight, and maximum wheel load.

Technical specification information must be displayed on the equipment nameplate — made of Stainless Steel or aluminum alloy for outdoor anti-corrosion. The nameplate includes the manufacturer's name and trademark, model and serial number, year of manufacture, rated lifting capacity and maximum load moment, working radius range, work duty classification, and dead weight/total machine weight. The nameplate is installed in a prominent location on the lower part of the crane (on the tower base section or portal base columns). The standard also requires load charts and curves for various operating conditions, posted inside the Cabin for easy operator reference.

Operation and Maintenance Manual Requirements

The standard specifies the content requirements for manuals — each jib crane must be delivered with an operation and maintenance manual (prepared in accordance with ISO 9928-1) covering all stages of the equipment's lifecycle. The Operation Manual section must include a general overview of the machine (structural diagram and key parameters), safe operation instructions (pre-operation inspection, operating procedures and prohibited actions, and safety device descriptions), operating instructions for each mechanism (control procedures and precautions for hoisting/luffing/slewing/traveling), emergency operation instructions (Emergency Stop, fault handling procedures, and manual release operations), and instructions for using the Load Chart (rated lifting capacity lookup tables for various working radii and jib length combinations).

The Maintenance Manual section must cover daily inspection and maintenance schedules (inspection items, intervals, and acceptance criteria for daily/weekly/monthly/yearly checks), a Lubrication Chart (lubrication points, lubricant types, and lubrication frequency), electrical and hydraulic system diagrams (circuit diagram, hydraulic schematic diagram, and piping layout), and a Wear parts list (name, specification/model, recommended brands, and ordering information). Manual update management — within 90 days of a product upgrade or standard revision, the manufacturer must send users a revised manual or change notice.

Installation & Spare Parts Information

The standard requires manufacturers to provide installation information covering foundation drawings (foundation type, dimensions, anchor bolt layout, and load parameters), installation steps (step-by-step procedures, lifting plan, bolt pretightening torque, and assembly clearance requirements), commissioning procedures (no-load and load testing steps with acceptance criteria), and inspection standards (post-installation acceptance standards and inspection items). Installation drawings must include anti-counterfeit watermarks and design approval signatures, with the drawing version number linked to the equipment serial number.

For spare parts, the manufacturer must supply a spare parts list covering at least 10 years of equipment operation. The list includes part numbers, names, specifications and models, materials, quantity per unit, and recommended replacement intervals. Critical spare parts (such as reducer gears, brake friction linings, wire ropes, and sensors) must be identified with ordering codes and accompanied by procurement guidance. The standard also requires manufacturers to maintain a spare parts inventory system (critical spare parts stock rate ≥80%) and provide rapid delivery for emergency orders within 24 hours during equipment downtime.

Document Updates & Record Retention

The standard sets requirements for update management and user record retention. When design improvements or standard revisions occur, the manufacturer must send updated information to the user within 90 days. The user must file the updates into the equipment file within 30 days of receipt. The equipment file must be retained from the date of commissioning until no less than 5 years after scrapping. The file should include the Technical Specification, operation and maintenance manual, installation acceptance report, all update/change notices, and maintenance and retrofit records.
